Livestock Guard Dogs
We have 4 wonderful GREAT PYRENESES that guard our farm. We did reserch on several different breeds and decided that the Pyrenese was the right breed for us.
Strong is our most experienced Pyre. He is 3 years old. It is amazing to watch him call the pack together in the middle of the field. And then, they split up into their assigned sections of the pasture. Sometimes they would rather play than work, but they are always watching and listening for any pending danger.
The goats are headed back to the barn after slipping through the fence and wandering away from the enclosed pasture. The dogs shadow them on the way, reminding the goats that protection is only guaranteed inside the border. Time for us to start working on that ever elusive goat-proof fence......again...
This is Zeus. He was our first LGD. Only 6 months old when we got him, Zeus was inexperienced and had too much work to do alone. We were able to get his older brother ,Strong, soon afterward. Later, Bear and Pan joined the pack, as well.
Bear tackles Pan. They are a bunch of puppies at heart. Pan, unfortunately, is the omega dog. But, someone has to be.
